About me

Hi, my name is Phil.

I am an avid Derby County season ticket holder, but to be honest it is getting more and more difficult to watch/get excited about. A bit of success would be nice; I’m not asking for European glory but some moderate achievement and sustained improvment would be nice.

I’m known for being a bit of a statto and having an opinion about most things football so I thought I’d start recording some of these. Please have a read, make a comment and come back again.

Not a bad read. Think Stuart Pearce will end up be the next England manager though. Any successes by Redknapp, Wenger, Morinho etc will result in Chairmans working overtime to keep them and Stuart Pearce is not in that situation.

I think Stuart Pearce is the likely candidate and the one that the FA will opt for. I think he has done a pretty decent job with the Under 21s, however, they have come unstuck in the last two tournaments… I’m particularly thinking of the heavy defeat to Germany and the massively undeserved draw against Spain. My only concern is that, similar to McLaren and the end of the Eriksson era, has Pearce become too indoctrined into the current regime or is he big enough and talented enough to see where things aren’t going right and make the necessary changes? The England job no longer appears to be the pinnacle of a manager’s career and the resource (be it available or willing) the FA have to choose from now appears to be getting slimmer by the year.
